Music Monday: Ends in the ocean

I'm at a hault in my life. a dead hault.
I'm not going to school, I currently am unemployed, and I live with my parents.
{I'm a bum, I know.}

I have big plans for my life, and not being the most patient person,
it's so hard not to wildly frustrated with this period of no progression.
and I think this song helps keep me sane, a good reminder, if you will.
Ends in the ocean- Avalanche City

DIY: Book Stack Necklace

 DIY: BOOK STACK NECKLACE

I first saw it via anthropolgie. Then I saw it all over the interweb and I couldn't help but try and make one myself.

*side note: i'm still not great at diy's, sometimes I add in extra materials, lose materials, and forget to photograph along the way so bear with me :)

Materials:
-An old disposable book
-Super glue
-Three different colors of leather
-A necklace chain
-A necklace clasp
-Craft pliers
-Push pins
-A pointy thingy..(the one with the red handle, i found it in my daddy's tool box!)
-Scissors
-Tape

1. Cut your leather into rectangles (I used some leather cases for glasses I found at the D.I. at 75 cents each)

If it has wierd fabric on a side, feel free to just pull it off :)

2. Measure your leather on the book pages and cut them out, then fold them in half.

4. Layer your pages individually rather than one folded in another.

5. Bring all the pages to an even surface and then bind them with masking tape
(I used clear tape, and it doesn't stick to the super glue very well so i reccomend masking.)

 6. Put your super glue down on the leather and lay your pages on top and fold
( I also super glued some pages together, so it wasn't so open looking...)

 7. Let them dry underneath a heavy book, I used the host.  :)

 8. I left mine to sit for about 45 minutes, I then cut off the edges that were sticking out with scissors and an expo knife.

9. Poke through the leather and first couple of pages with a sharp pokey thing so your pin can have a place to start, then push the pin all the way through

10. This is where things get a bit crazy so bear with me. I bought some certain pin things to ultimitaley hold the books together, of course I couldn't find them anywhere. I used some extra earring hooks instead.
I simply flattened out a hook and guided it through the hole I made with the pin.
Sadly the hook was not long enough to go through all three books so I took my pliers and made my own loop from the bottom of the earring hook, and hooked it to the top of another earring hook...you got all that?

Then to hold it all in, i just bent the bottom of the second hook all crazy like. :)

11. In the midst of doing all that I attached my clasp and took of some of the chain off so it was the length that I wanted and then attached the books!
That step is as easy as prying open the chain links and closing them.
 AND DONE :)
Don't mind my hair, I know its the craziest.

I hope you like, cause I sure do! I hope you got it all!

Thrift Nifty Wednesday: Floral Hangers

I dub today

You can count on me sharing wonderful finds from thrift stores, yard sales and antique shops. [past&present]

Today I was craving a run to the D.I. While I was tempted to by vintage suit cases, mason jars, and dish sets; my heart decided upon these bad boys.

Some inspired person crocheted these lovely hanger covers with these adorable flowers on them!
Great right? It also will solve my "clothes that can't stay on the hanger" epidemic.

While I'm sure many of you have a prejiduce against thrift store's; washing machine's or disinfectant spray does wonders; don't deprive yourself on finding cheap lovely treasures :)

Drowning.

General Conference, while not very recent in time, has been on my mind so much.
I really feel so blessed to be given the opportunity to hear from such inspired people.
A while ago I decided to jump on the bandwagon and photoshop my favorite quote.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not the most selfless person..to say the least.
I need to serve more but as I am sure many of you can relate..It's not always comfortable, and my pride more than not gets in the way.
I need to stop holding back and start serving.
I think this quote is perfect inspiration.

OH and I was lucky enough to guest post on my dear friend courtney's blog today :)

Bloom- The Paper Kites

youtube jumping

youtube jumping [yoo:toob  juhmp-ing]
verb
1. To select a related link on the video space or side bar after watching a youtube video.
2. A sharp way to find original, melodious music.
3. How I've chosen to spend a majority of my time lately.

But seriously.
This little task has led me to some many amazing voices I never knew were out there.
You know when you hear a song and you fall deeply in love with it?
I fell in love, I fell hard. This is not infatuation and I'm sure of it.
Every word, pluck of the banjo, and hum could not be more perfect.
It makes me smile, gives me chills, and makes me want to be in love for the rest of forever?
Yeah that's about right.

A Saturday night with my laptop, and skull candies has left me content.

the song you ask? It needs to a be a surprise on a mix cd before on the blog..stay tuned!

I don't need a parachute

I saw Ingrid in concert last night with my best friend
(remember this?)
and honestly, she never ceases to amaze me.
I laugh at all the cliche` and awesome things she says.
I literally get goose bumps and chills when she, allie moss, and bess rogers sing the chain.
I was smiling ear to ear as she sang my favorite song of the hour "parachute"
But as hard as I try, words can't explain ingrid and all the glory I got to bask in.
So instead of trying to tell you, I'll just trust that you will take yourself to her concert next time.

So you know how I'm obsessed with pinterest like the rest of the world?
Today it led me to..

I could not be more excited.
I plan on doing at least 20 of these this summer.
Speaking of summer....

Have I mentioned how much I love living down the street from the hang gliding park?
Yeah I love it a lot.
And the 5 that were out there today is nothing compared to the 20's that will be out there in days to come!

I really am so so so excited, what are most excited about? don't hold back :)

xo, Rach

p.s. I just realized that the title of this post matches ingrid, and the hangliders.
Cleverness? unintentional.

Fighting the sleepy.

So I quit my job last week.
I really didn't like it, and life is to short to be unhappy with something like a job.
I plan on start doing something with myself again soon..
but for now, i'm enjoying down time.
aka. staying up til 2 in the morning and sleeping in til 10.

It'll be a problem when my life is real again.
While I usually am just catching up on saved by the bell via netflix
tonight I feel I have a great excuse to be up so late!

I did a photoshoot today with some lovely high school friends!
The sun was super harsh..but I'm still gawking over how pretty they all are.
While I took so many pictures, here's 3 to spark your interest.

I'll be your emmylou

Good music? I feel like everyday it is harder to find.
I wouldn't consider myself a hipster..
unless we're talking about music.

I rarely enjoy overplayed radio hits.
and when I find great music,
I hide it away like a little gold nugget
not wanting anyone to spoil the treasure I found.
but this is something I am definitely trying to overcome.

This band isn't just a golden nugget, but a mine.
*at least I think so*

Emmylou- First Aid Kit
I'll be your emmylou and I'll be your june
If you'll be my gram and my johnny too.

What's your golden nugget? Share if you'd like :)

Strippers and slot machines.

Yes, you guessed it. I was in Las Vegas.

My brother Jeremy just got married there, and it was lovely!
*You may remember Chloe from some bridal shower picture's I post a week or so back.*
Despite the misty rain, and the cold breeze the wedding was a stunner.
My favorite part? Wearing a pretty dress and heels that didn't kill my feet.
Hot chocolate and cheesecake pops weren't too bad either.
*Yeah you heard me, cheesecake pops, I'll be making me some soon..hopefully*

While I love road trips, and mini vay-cay's
I declare that nothing is better than coming home to your own bed.

Tonight I will be snuggled between my dog, and floral body pillow
watching an episode of saved by the bell to help me doze off.
I'm very content.

Happy sunday

Afro no more.

I have curly hair.
Like really curly..ringlets, frizz, the whole sha-bang.
til I paid someone to put magic in my hair.
Also known as a Brazilian blow out.

I am so amazed you have no idea.
My hair has never been so frizz less, so shiny, so soft, so not curly.
but I can show you better than I can tell you..

My hair plus a blow dryer; Before.

My hair plus a blow dryer; After.
p.s. touch-ups were kept to a minimum.

But seriously, I wish you could reach through the screen and caress my hair.
I'm positive you reply would be something along the line's of
"Wow, where'd you get this silk wig, it's way too awesome to be real hair on someone's head"
or something like that.

So if you want to go from curly or wavy to straight hair with out damaging it, or making it feel crazy (and by spending lots of money)?I highly reccomend it. :)

Let's Catch Up

I threw a bridal shower a couple weeks ago.."how'd it go" you may ask? Good, great actually. Pictures? Sure.

My future sister-in-law is stunning, just in case you didn't know.

Easter, wasn't half bad either, especially cause I made cupcakes,
and I love me some cupcakes.

Those flowers? I think they look spectacular, but the secret is that it's not a secret.
*Take mini marshmallows and cut them diagonally
and shake them in a Ziploc of colored sugar*
The end. :)

Music Monday. Yeah I missed it. But music is great on tuesdays too.
Just a game- Birdy; The hunger games soundtrack.

Yeah, I got petta on the brain.

I'm a thief, take me in!

So one time I was eating a hot dog on a stick at the mall.
I was just browsing a store, when I finished it.
I walked out the nearest garbage can to throw it away,
which was just outside the store.
When I walked back in, I noticed I had a shoe box in my hand..
and that I was officially a shop lifter.

First I apologized a thousand times for stealing,
then I sighed and said "Crap, I just knocked my stero-type down 10 points"

Lesson learned? Don't be dumb and walk out of a store with merchandise in your hand.

I love this a lot right now.

Friday, Bye-day

I'm dubbing today friday bye-day.
Today was my last day at the daycare, and it was super sad.
You can imagine after a year and a half I would be pretty attached.
They are the greatest, funniest people I know..seriously.

ie: {after dancing for a bit}
A- I need to stop..my muscles hurt. L-Yeah me too..my blood hurts.

{after lunch when I didn't eat my green beans}
D- Ms. Rayo, if you don't eat your beans you'll never grow up to be big and strong, now go eat your beans.

{singing to herself while on the rocking horse}
R- Now you're just somebody that I used to know..SOMEBODY.

Yeah greatest times, these kids are too fun.

P.s. I thrifted a new bag today. I'm sort of in love with it..

leather, velvet, floral and one shoulder :)
